09 Aug What You Don’t Know About Me
I want to know you—but not just your name. I want to know something weird about you! So here’s a few bits of trivia about me. Leave a comment with some of yours!
I…
…hate watermelon.

…once had a dog that was allergic to my cat.
…keep the SyFy channel on non-stop on my bathroom TV.
…have a TV in my bathroom.
…used to believe Luke Skywalker was coming for me in his land cruiser.

…name my vacuum cleaners.
…own a hunting bow.
…am famous for my split pea soup. I’ve also been known to burn water.
…live in sweatpants and wish they made Geranimals for adults.
…did I mention I don’t like to wash my hair?
…have fished all over the world—including for piraña on the Amazon.
…once caught a 60 lb. halibut in Alaska.
…get lost everywhere I go, no matter how many times I’ve been there.
…am a compulsive cleaner
…love to bowl—and suck at it.
…think of food the entire time I’m working out.
Your turn. 🙂

Posted at 06:33h, 12 August–I have OCD, but it’s mostly obsessional; aside from general rules about handwashing/food prep and service, I have a handful of triggers that can set off some really bad compulsive cycles. Sometimes this veers into a form of hypochondria.
–I love reading and stories. I am a terrible creative writing teacher because I get caught up in the stories being told and have a hard time fairly evaluating the work.
–I’m working on a novel and want to finish it, but I have to finish my dissertation first because I’m running out of time for that.
–I’m a name-nerd and have been since I was a child, and I make lists of names the way that some people idly doodle. I love thinking about names and am pretty picky about favorites. I can’t stand “yooneek” name spellings; names like C/Katherine or Elis/zabeth don’t bother me; I don’t even mind a spelling that makes a name more aesthetically pleasing to look at it when written down, like “Ashleigh” instead of “Ashley,” but when random letters are doubled or vowels randomly replaced with other vowels or vowel combinations or /y/, or when they do things like change all the /c/ names to /k/ names just because their own name starts with a /k/ (you know who I’m talking about), then I get really angry at the parents for wasting their chance to give their child a meaningful and beautiful name because I don’t have kids as much as I’ve always wanted them. I have a short list ready to go if I ever get the chance to name one (or more) of my own.
–Also, I put a lot of thought into naming pets and characters.
–I have a hobby of creating blends of tea inspired by my favorite fandoms on Adagio; Michael Cudlitz (Abraham on The Walking Dead) got a hold of the teas I created for Abraham and another character, Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and tweeted that someone had made them into tea, and it made my year.
–The best thing to eat in the summer is a fresh tomato sandwich, and the next best is a fresh peach.
–Sitting in the water at the beach heals my soul.

Posted at 12:32h, 11 AugustI love watermelon, but only local and in season. Melons trucked in from far away places aren’t worth my time.
My cats each have multiple nicknames, and they answer to all their names. At least, as much as cats answer.
My muse is Walter Mitty. He likes to be called Walter or Walt (as it Whitman), but he goes on strike if you call him Wally.
I’m addicted to cold brew coffee.
I love good scotch.
If I drink pop, it’s semi-flat. I purposely shake out some of the carbonation or I’m not fit to be around anyone except drunk frat boys.

Posted at 16:11h, 11 AugustI love cold coffee, cold coffee drinks, iced coffee…

Posted at 17:46h, 10 AugustLove a bowl of melted cheese. Always give my cats long weird nicknames. (Smudge is Smudgarooni) Have really big, big toes. Prefer flat pop. Love me a stout or porter. Could sit in a blues bar all night long and do so whenever I get the chance. Drink hot water instead of coffee or tea. Not that big a fan of chocolate. Love change. Cannot stand to listen to people chew!!!!! Adore sloths. Want to be Tosca Lee when I grow up. 😉

Posted at 16:01h, 10 AugustI
. . . loathe when people use the phrase “but yet.”
. . . would much rather have plain sour cream with my chips than chip dip.
. . . took seven years to write my first novel.
. . . hate running, but wish I had a runner’s body.
tosca
Posted at 18:57h, 10 AugustI hear you on the running–and the sour cream. :>

Posted at 15:55h, 10 August– Love all kinds of food but cannot think about the food being in my mouth because then I notice the texture and it will send me running for the bathroom, or trash can, or whatever. So gross. The only texture I can think about is creamy and I’m fine.
– I can handle losing people in my life (except for my children) but when my dog died I ended up in therapy for six months.
– I can’t sleep with underwear on. I will toss and turn half the night until I take them off.
_ My two grown sons and once sat outside of the house in the van for three hours while we waited for someone to come home and kill the spider that was between us and the front door of the house.
– I broke three bones in my leg/ankle sleep walking one night while dreaming about spiders. Had to have emergency surgery that night because the breaks were so severe they cut off the circulation to my foot. I still have an ankle full of pins.
– I once rearranged and entire cruise and flights home in order to climb right into the car and race two hours by car and drag every last Ted Dekker book I owned (and I own A LOT) to his book signing. He then signed every single book with total grace and patience while he was sick with bronchitis and I know he just wanted to go home.
– I can only play Candy Crush on my phone if the Andy Griffith show in on TV. Otherwise, my brain just won’t process the information. I can also only play Hay Day or Zombie Castaways if Criminal Minds is on.
_ I must have one of four movies on to sleep. Signs, The Village, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton’s).
– I also cannot sleep unless there is a full bottle of fresh water by the bed. I may not drink it at all but it MUST be there.
tosca
Posted at 18:57h, 10 AugustLOL on the spiders. After that surgery, no wonder you’re afraid of them!

Posted at 15:33h, 10 AugustI get lost, yes, but I also forget where I’m going and that I’m driving. ????. I LOVE Legos but do not share them with my grandson. All dials must be set on a PRIME number. With volumes this is tricky because the leap from 7 to 11 can be significant. ????
tosca
Posted at 18:56h, 10 AugustI nearly flunked math. I had to go look up what a prime number was. 😀

Posted at 12:54h, 10 August– I’m getting married on September 3rd. September is my favorite month. My fiancé wanted to get married three months from the engagement but the date landed in August. I could not bear the thought if getting married in August as it is my least favorite month.
– I have OCD but haven’t been officially diagnosed. It’s very difficult to get a VA appointment for mental health issues.
– My favorite number is 24,708
– I’ve served 16 years in the Army as a helicopter mechanic. I was usually the only femal mechanic.
– I have trypophobia, the fear of holes. I get queasy when I see clusters of holes. Especially if it is organic in nature, like lotus flowers.
– Some of my favorite nicknames that I’ve been called are Bubbles, Dory, and Hobbit.
– I find the Fibinoci sequence to be beautiful.
– I’m afraid to vacuum when it’s dark out. I think someone will sneak up behind me a snatch me up.
– I collect custom painted replica human skulls. I have a plan to get a set of 12 complete with backstories.
tosca
Posted at 18:55h, 10 AugustCongratulations on your upcoming marriage, Heather! And now, thanks to you, I will never vacuum after dark again.

Posted at 05:45h, 10 AugustI…
-Was left handed when I was little but my father made me use my right hand because “the world was right handed”. I’m still screwed up from that
-Have to put everything on left sided first or I don’t feel like I’m dress correctly
-Will watch Alien and Jaws if its on TV no matter what else is on.
-Became claustrophobic after being shoved in an MRI machine that looked like it was the first one off the production line. Now I can barely stand to talk about it without panicking
-Love frogs and reptiles but do the screamy girl dance over spiders and insects.
-If you see me you’d never guess I’m in stg 3 kidney failure and have an auto immune disease.
tosca
Posted at 18:54h, 10 AugustI. Love. Aliens. And same thing about spiders and insects. Screams dancing all over.

Posted at 04:00h, 10 AugustI…
– Have enjoyed this sharing of oddities
– Love to hike, but more so I can take photos than for the exercise it offers
– Can’t seem to see Stargate often enough (though I will continue to try)
– Want to express myself through photos because words never seem to work for me
– Used to write all the time
– Still dress up for Halloween (I’m only 34 after all)
– And often times when it’s not Halloween as well
– Prefer animated movies to live action
– And while I have nothing against watermelon itself, I do take issue with everything being seedless now because kids now will never know the joys of seed spitting contests
tosca
Posted at 18:54h, 10 AugustYou’re right, Jen! What happened to seeds, anyway??
Penny E Stone
Posted at 03:49h, 10 AugustI love salt on watermelon, cantaloupe, and apples.
I want my cream of wheat and oatmeal to be dry and thick enough to chew, not liquidity.
My self esteem is tied to how productive I am.
With degenerative disk disease, stenosis of the spine, and inflammatory joints, I experience a lot of pain. I have had 8 back surgeries, spent 1 year bedfast, and cherish the ability to walk again.
I hate shaving my legs, but love how they feel afterwards.
tosca
Posted at 18:53h, 10 AugustWow, Penny–that’s a lot of surgeries. Way to go on keeping up the fight!

Posted at 02:13h, 10 August-I don’t like oranges. I can’t stand the texture.
-I have pointe shoes with taps on the bottom because my favorite kinds of dance are pointe and clogging. Might as well combine the two!
-I have a bearded dragon named Norbert, and I take him outside on a leash.
-Sometimes when I get bored I memorize poetry for fun.
-Bad SyFy movies are my guilty pleasure.
tosca
Posted at 18:52h, 10 AugustI need a video of the dancing one of these days!

Posted at 02:02h, 10 AugustI hate peas & limas; texture.
I’ve probably read 1000’s of books; at least 100 per year since pre-teenage years.
Love to learn, just about anything.
My personality type is INFJ, which was was explained as an “odd” personality by a therapist.
I’m afraid of toads & frogs, a fact my 13 year old boy takes great delight in reminding me.
I have a large pond with…many frogs.
Chocolate gives me migraines.
tosca
Posted at 18:52h, 10 AugustLOL on the frog pond. 😀 I love little frogs. Dislike lima beans.
Amanda Willie
Posted at 02:02h, 10 AugustI have a ridiculously complex system for eating french fries. I hate pointy fries and refuse to eat the sharp ends. Love the guts of the fry and really like the soft, almost under done ones best.
I love soggy cereal, and will happily wait until it’s the perfect texture before I eat it. (I have several texture issues)
I HAVE to have ice in my drinks, I’m so happy with my generic yeti cup because it keeps my drink so cold. I hate bottled water, unless there’s ice to pour it over.
I hate unnecessary noise, which is hilarious because my husband makes more noise than any human (other than my brother). I think God did that for fun.
I’m allergic to perfume, and feel that there should be manditory serving sizes on all perfume/cologne bottles, like spray it once and it won’t spray again for 24 hours. (Axe is banned from our house)
For seven years I told everyone I turned 28 on my birthday. After I hit 35, I suddenly found peace with my age and haven’t turned 28 since 🙂
Heather Kellerhals
Posted at 05:22h, 10 AugustPlease take your perfume idea to manufacturing immediately! Haha! I get horrible migraines from perfumes and people seem to bathe in it more often then not. Awesome idea ????

Posted at 21:20h, 09 AugustI have minor Asperger’s syndrome which includes OCD, fear of traveling, communication problems and an even bigger problem understanding what people mean instead of what they say. I have a chiweenie that is a emotional support service animal I dont understand subway it should be called sauce way because they add new sauces not really new subs and perhaps the one I get the most flak for is I am a people watcher/studier I find people very intriguing they do some weird thing which makes me ponder philosophical nature of all of mankind. I am a Pokemon fan and lastly I study philosophy and theology and quantum physics for fun. ????
tosca
Posted at 01:12h, 10 AugustLove this, Charles. Thank you! I love the studying quantum physics for fun (I wish I understood it better). And I totally want a picture of your dog!
Donna McChristian
Posted at 15:52h, 10 AugustI with you both on the fascination for the study of quantum physics and my frustration to understand it beyond a second grade level! Lol. There’s a book I would recommend that helped a lot (as well as inspired a few story ideas!) called Beyond the Cosmos by Hugh Ross. He really did a great job of describing concepts in a way that I could visualize. In order to understand things I have to picture them and this is hardly possible in the field of quantumness. Lol.
