FIRSTBORN: Look What Came in the Mail!

My publisher just sent me the last galley of Firstborn, the sequel to The Progeny. That means two things: first, it’s going into production and on its way to you! (Yay!) Second… I’m late starting the short stories I promised. BUT they’re coming… so look out and make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter, which is how I’ll be sending them to you.

In the meantime, I have one question for you. It occurred to me while I was writing the Author’s Note for this duology (which will appear at the back of Firstborn), that I don’t actually know if people read these things. Do you? Why or why not? Leave your answer below and one lucky person (determined by the almighty random-number generator) who leaves a comment, will win a LIVE t-shirt based on Audra’s tatoo.

Meanwhile, we’re working on the big Firstborn cover reveal, after which Firstborn will be ready for pre-orders. Are you ready to run for your life… again?

(Haven’t read The Progeny yet? No problem. Use the links below to get your copy!)

I thought I commented but I didn’t see my comments. Yes, I read. the author’s notes. Because it is a continuation of the book.

Guess it has never crossed my mind to not read them?!?!? If I have invested the time to read the entire book I would assume there was just more to be said.

I always start to read them. They are typically a window into what the author was thinking and generally connect you to them. That said, there have been a few author’s notes that were so bad, I didn’t finish them…

I read them too. I love seeing what inspired the book, well the what and who. Its a great way to see inside the head of the author.

I read them, as it can give you an even bigger insight into the authors perspective and allow you to catch things you might have missed the first time you read the book

I usually read them because I love to know the tidbits the author puts in there. I like it if they explain some inspirations for the story or whatever, also something about them – it is almost always fun to read, so I do look forward to them!

Sometimes I read them, sometimes I don’t. A lot of times it depends on the author and how well I “know” them, sometimes it’s just if the mood hits me to read it.

I read the Author’s Notes – Sometimes they are as good as the book itself. (sometimes). Stephen King writes awesome author notes.

I read them about 50% of the time – depending on the author. And the book.

Sometimes I read the author’s notes, but most of the time I don’t. It depends on how much I liked the book and the author’s style of writing.

I read yours. When I have been sucked into a great story I find the author’s notes are a good way to ease back into reality. Also, I’m always hopeful that you will reveal another book. ♡

Yes… I always read the author’s notes…. I find it interesting to see who was integral in making the book, what your thinking was in conception, and what surprises the story brought to you., I enjoyed The Progeny immensely… just finished a little while ago, and immediately went online to find the next book, which brought me to your website. This search is what made me realize you wrote the series with Ted Dekker that I also enjoyed a lot. Thanks for all that you do… I’m not a writer, but am a voracious reader, and your books have provided many hours of great entertainment. Thank you!

I read the author’s notes if I was interested in the topic of the book. I read your author’s notes because I enjoy learning more about the history or other information you used.

I read them. Mostly because I’m a nerd 😉 Seriously though, they are really interesting most of the times. I like finding out secrets there. It’s like the bonus features on a movie. Or the extra surprise for the people who stay in the theater through the credits and get a fun reward at the end!

I always read the author’s note because it makes me feel even more connected to the author and the story. To hear what was behind everything I just read, it’s exciting! It’s definitely something I always look forward to at the end of books.

Also, I’m so excited for Firstborn….just finished The Progeny and I can’t wait to see what happens to Audra and Luca!
